Legend of the Kala:
Over Throw and Death of Mala
It was back in the early years, before Rodes was ever settled.
Giants Kats roamed across Peranu and Epona. It was a bleak time to live, and death came
quickly. When the rodents were not fighting the Kats they were warred against each
other. It was into this chaos that the Kala were brought. Created by the war god Agni,
the Kala were gifted with great knowledge and steel weapons. They constructed the great
city of Agnista, City of Agni, and built a massive wall around it. In the center was the
first of the Great Watch Towers. It was from here that the Kala struck out against Mala,
the creator of the Kats. Mala was once a god who lived in Baņa. He and his twin brother,
Ika, were the gods of life and death. One day Ika was appointed the god of life. This
drove Mala into a fit of rage in which he slew his brother. The gods casted him out of
Baņa and put the curse of being the god of death and destruction. His brother was reborn
and bestowed with the gift of perpetual life, and being the god of life. Mala hewed a
fortress of solid black onyx in the land of Perkuno, north of Peruna. The land was in
perpetual darkness. Here Mala created horrific creatures and beasts, which he used to
take dominion over all of The Old World. One of which was the terrifying Kat. The Kat
was his most diabolical creation. It as as large as a oak, and had black scales which
shone like polished marble in any light. The scales were as hard as marble, it's only
weak spot was the joints, for this was where the scales moved the most. It had a mane of
fire which ran from the nape creature's neck to the tip of it's tail. It carried a sword
of black stone, the same stone that was hewed into it's master's terrible palace. It's
eyes glowed bright green in starlight and moon light and were as black as pitch in the
day. It would chase it's prey on fours until the prey had no where left to run, then the
fowl demon would stand upon two legs and walk towards it's helpless victim. It's claws
were sharper than the sharpest axes, and could cut down a full grown oak in one swipe.
It took the Kala nearly thirty years to wipe out the last Kat in Peruna and Epona. By
then Mala had devised an even fouler creature. He called it the Mal-Kala, and they were
his response to the Kala threat. To the Mal-Kala he gift weapons and armor of black
steel and a great fortress which they called Mala-Kunu, Fortress of Mala. So it was Mala
sent a counter army to defeat the Kala. They struck first at North Watch Tower, which
had not yet been completed. They slaughtered all Kala and feasted on the meat of the
dead. Truly this was the most gruesome of Mala's creations, even more so than the Kats.
The Mal-Kala and the Kala met on the field of war for the first time in the clearing of
Shin-Ta. It was here that the great warrior Fen'Hon appeared. He slew many Mal-Kala that
day, as did the rest of his army. The Kala appointed him Emperor of the Kala. He was the
Kala's greatest warrior. After the Battle of Shin-Ta the Kala did not win any victory.
Soon Agni came to Fen'Hon and told him to lead his people into the Sandy Desert. Once
here Agni would protect them in a mountain in the center of the desert. Fen'Hon did was
he was told and lead his people to The Last Mountain. Agni came through on his promise
to protect the Kala, he gave to them Lithen armor and weapons, the strongest metal ever
crafted. Only Thoth, the god of the fire, knew how to craft it. So it was that the Kala
were protected by the silver armor of the gods. The Kala then lead a massive assault on
the Mal-Kala, who had taken the city of Agnista as their own. There at battle of Agnista
fell Fen'Hon, struck down by a Kat of Mala. The Kala fled back to The Last Mountain and
there waited for a sign from the gods. None came and Fen'Hon's son Shep'Hon the Warrior
rose to power. He lead a host of Kala to the Southern Sea and constructed a fleet of
ships to carry the host to the western coast of Peranu. So as to strike at the Mal-Kala
from where they least suspected. His planed worked flawlessly and he reclaimed the city
of Agnista. The Mal-Kala, frightened by the Kala's cunning retreated to their land of
Perkuno. The Kala pursued the Mal-Kala all the way back to the very gates of Mala-Kunu.
They then made weapons of siege and besieged the fortress. They besieged the town for
many months, neither side was willing to surrender. Finally the death lord Mala came to
break the will of the Kala. He masked himself in a body of ten feet tall with black plated armor. In this
form he lead a counter strike on the Kala. Agni went to Shep'Hon knowing that Mala would be in the
battle. He enlisted his services and lead the defense against Mala. In the
battle that ensued all of the Mal-Kala were defeated and slain. Mala and Agni battled
until at last Mala was vanquished. As Mala was stabbed, he cried a bleak prophecy, in
which he for told his second coming and the end of the reign of Baņa. After which his
body vanished and his armor fell to the ground. His helmet has been enshrined forever
since, to remind the Kala of their destiny to protect the world at the return of Mala.
For gods, even evil ones, never die, they only loose their energy and need to be reborn.
Here is the account of the Prophecy of Mala, written by the hand
of Shep'Hon himself. "'Many ages from now I will return to return to my my rightful'
'Place as the ruler of this land. Before my coming I shall send forth' 'A host of
terrifying beasts that I have kept hidden from you.' 'You shall never be rid of me, I
shall linger from this day' 'Till the day I return. Ever watching in the shadows,
waiting' 'Waiting for my time to come. When I come it shall be when' 'the sky burns
orange, and the fields have turned black with' 'the blood of the Gerbils. Before I pass
I put a curse on you Kala' 'I curse you all to fall into shadow, and grow as weak as
those around you' "It was after this last line that Agni drew back his blade to give one
final stroke to Mala. Then as the blade of Ago sliced into the neck of Mala, he
disappeared into a wisp of smoke. His helm fell to the ground, and I picked it up. When
we arrived back in Agnista I placed the helm of Mala on a pedestal, and under it was
inscribed the prophecy that he had said. So that his words may not come true, and so the
ages to come will never forget that there was once a Mala, and that many gave their
lives to defeat him." So were the words of Shep'Hon. However the younger generations did
not heed his warning, and fell into darkness.
